Francisca Almeida is Chief Corporate & Legal Officer at Wiimer, leading the company's MarCom, Talent and Legal departments.
With more than 15 years of experience, Francisca spent most of her career working as a lawyer (administrative and public law) in top-tier law firms, including Cuatrecasas and Miranda & Associados. Her practice focused, notably, on advising leading multinationals operating in regulated industries including electricity, upstream oil & gas, mining and transport, in their activities in Portugal and abroad. She has been actively involved in complex transactions and represented clients in disputes involving and/or related to industry regulatory matters.
Francisca’s professional experience also includes serving as an elected member of the Portuguese Parliament, where she held various posts, notably those of VP of the Parliamentary Group and MPs Coordinator in the Committee on Constitutional Affairs, Civil Rights, Freedoms and Guarantees.
Francisca holds a degree in Law (Universidade Católica Portuguesa, 2006) and a Master with a published MSc Dissertation on the dispute settlement powers of regulatory agencies in disputes between regulated companies (Universidade Católica Portuguesa, 2015). Most recently, being aware of the difficulties posed by the use of data, algorithms and automated decision both in the private and public sectors, Francisca focused her research and training in data policy and regulation, completing the Couse on Data: Law Policy and Regulation (LSE – Londo School of Economics, 2021).
